Reading:
- Week 1: Tic-Tac-Toe and Finite Geometry.
- Week 2: Chapter 2 of Soifer's Mathematical Coloring Book. The chapter is posted on Gauchospace; notes for the lecture can be found here!
- Week 2: I was traveling this week. Therefore, lectures were recorded and placed on YouTube! They're kind of awkward, because lecturing without an audience is odd, but you can watch them here:
part 1/3, part 2/3, part 3/3.
- Week 3: Sections of Richeson's text Euler's Gem, which are posted on Gauchospace.
- Week 4: Kempe's false proof of the Four-Color Theorem, again from Soifer's Mathematical Coloring Book / on Gauchospace.
- Week 5: Random walks and electrical networks. Taken from Doyle and Snell's excellent writeup, linked here.
- Week 6: Generalized fibonacci sequences! Specifically working from Benjamin, Quinn and Su's paper, linked here.
- Week 7: Generating functions and nonstandard dice. Taken from a paper by Gallian and Rusin titled "Cyclotomic Polynomials and Nonstandard Dice," which is posted on Gauchospace.
- Week 8: Pascal's triangle! There are many sources for this talk; the main one is this translation of Pascal's "Traité du triangle arithmétique."
