History

The Infinite Cardinals have been the UT math department's coed softball team since 2010. In 2011 we made it to within a single game of the intramural championship (no seriously, I have proof).

2013 Cardinals

This year we will be playing our games on Mondays at 7pm at the intramural fields. Here is our schedule in case you want to come out and catch a game. Stay tuned for more info about this years team.

Week 1

The first week of the season had the Cardinals matched against No Problems Scoring. The Cardinals hit the ground running with a 6 run first inning that included a 3-run home run by power hitting Jeff Hussmann. A stingy defense that included multiple highlight reel catches by Chelsea Cerini helped led the Cardinals to a 12-2 victory that has No Problems Scoring pondering a name change.

Week 2

In week 2 the Cardinals squared off against their perennial nemesis, the Cookie Batters. The game started as a defensive battle with no score through the first 3 innings. A pair walks and some timely hitting by Jeff Hussmann, Phil Monin, and Nick Rauh helped get the cardinal offense going, and the Cardinals battered the Batters 11-1. The Cardinals now find themselves alone in first place after their 2-0 start.

Week 3

In week 3 the Cardinals were pitted against Balls in the Outfield. The game was close throughout and featured stellar defense from both sides. Trailing 5-4 in the last inning, the Cardinals saw their potential rally squashed by a spectacular diving catch by the opposing shortstop. After the tough loss, the Cardinals are 2-1 and their playoff lives hang in the balance of their game next week.

Week 4

Week 4 saw the Cardinals with their back against the wall, needing a win against the Lady Birds to secure a spot in the playoffs. The Cardinals were flying high after building a 7-2 lead through 4 innings. However, a sloppy 5th inning saw the lead evaporate and the Cardinals entered the top of the 6th in a 7-7 battle. Stellar base-running by Chelsea Cerini and timely hitting by Jeff Meier and Jeff Danciger netted the Cardinals 2 runs in the top of the 6th. After 2 quick outs in the bottom of the 6th, the Lady Birds advanced a runner to second and the tying run came to the plate. A bloop hit to shallow right field led to the runner on second scoring, and the batter trying aggressively for second base. However a heads up play be Jamie Pool started the 4-1-6 putout that preserved the Cardinals 9-8 win, and lead to what is undoubtedly the most exciting finish in Cardinals history.
