Prof. Paul J. Atzberger
Department of Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering
Research Homepage
Dr. Atzberger's research focuses on stochastic phenomena
in microscopic systems arising in physics, biology,
and engineering. Specific areas in which he works include
complex fluids / soft condensed matter, lipid bilayer
membranes (structure / dynamics), microfluidics,
osmotic phenomena, cellular mechanics, and motor proteins.
Dr.Atzberger also has mathematical interests in stochastic
differential equations and related issues of numerical
analysis and scientific computing.
Prof. Hector D. Ceniceros
Department of Mathematics
Research Homepage
Prof. Ceniceros' research focuses on the investigation of free boundary problems in multi-phase flow and complex (polymeric) fluids through the design, analysis, and application of effective numerical methodologies.
His specific research areas include: boundary integral methods, phase field and level set approaches, immersed boundary method, field-theoretic polymer models, adaptive and multi-scale methods, interfacial rheology, and liquid crystalline polymers.
Prof. Carlos J. Garcia-Cervera
Department of Mathematics
Research Homepage
Prof. Garcia-Cervera's research focuses on problems arising in Materials Science and Condensed Matter Physics, and in particular, the dynamic and static properties of complex systems. His research interests include fields such as Ferromagnetism, Superconductivity, Liquid Crystals, Polymeric Fluids, and Quantum Chemistry.
Prof. Maria Isabel Bueno Cachandina
Department of Mathematics
Research Homepage
Prof. Bueno Cachandina's research focuses on a class of problems in numerical linear algebra, matrix analysis and Orthogonal polynomials.
Prof. Gustavo Ponce
Department of Mathematics
Research Homepage
Prof. Ponce's research is at the intersection of mathematical physics, harmonic analysis and nonlinear partial differential equations. The main goal is to describe the qualitative behavior of solutions to model physical systems by developing techniques from harmonic analysis. One of the central problems in Prof. Ponce's research is the study of nonlinear dispersive equations and systems arising from Fluid Dynamics.
Prof. Thomas C. Sideris
Department of Mathematics
Research Homepage
Nonlinear hyperbolic partial differential equations, including especially applications to hydro- and elasto-dynamics.
Prof. Bjorn Birnir
Department of Mathematics
Research Homepage
Bjorn´s current research interest are: Stochastic nonlinear partial differential equations and turbulence; dynamical systems theory of partial differential equations; mathematical seismology and geomorphology; nonlinear phenomena in quantum mechanical systems; complex and nonlinear models in biology and applications of the above. The papers from the Center for Complex and Nonlinear Science can be found at the website:
