I will talk about how basic ideas in algebra can be applied in cryptography. I will explain how a few cryptosystems (e.g. RSA public-key cryptosystem) work and then discuss a couple ways to safely exchange cipher keys. One of the ways uses quantum theory, which is supposed to be unbreakable if quantum theory is true.
