Algebra Seminar: Stepan Paul (UCSB), 'The intricate world of graded syzygies'

Event Date:

Monday, October 15, 2012 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Event Location:

  • 4607B South Hall

We will explore graded modules over a polynomial ring, and use graded free resolutions and syzygies as a way of understanding their structure. After a brief introduction, we will focus on two areas of active research: Boij-Soderberg Theory (which describes what structure the graded syzygies of a module must have), and modules arising from Veronese embeddings of P^n.
